Workshops, Classes and Events

March Yarns provides classes and workshops (see below for monthly listings) for knitting and crochet with something suitable for all abilities from absolute beginners to those with more experience wanting to try something new.

Crochet

JULY

Beginners Crochet  - Make a Granny Square

Lesson cost $45 including supplies

For absolute beginners (age 12 years to adult)

learn the basics: chain, double, treble, how to turn to begin new rows, how to join in a new colour and how to read a pattern

Duration: 3 hours

Tuesday 13th August 9:30am - 12:30pm

 

Knitting 

 

Socks - Learn to knit socks

Note: this is an intermediate level class, students need to already know how to knit (plain, purl, K2tog, cast on/off etc). This series of 3 workshops will teach you how to knit socks on double pointed needles in the round. Taught by a very experienced, prize winning sock knitter.

3 sessions, 2 hours each (6 hours in total). Cost: $85 plus supplies. You will need a set of 2.25mm double pointed knitting needles, sock yarn and notepaper and a pen to take notes.

JULY/AUGUST 2019

Session 1: (cast on and knit the band) Monday 29th July, 3pm - 5pm

Session 2: (learn how to turn the heel) Monday 5th August, 3pm - 5pm

Session 3: (grafting the toe) Monday 13th August, 3pm - 5pm

 

Beginners Knitting  - Move from Beginner level to Intermediate

Attention all basic knitters (ie., can knit and purl) who are ready to move to the next level. March Yarns is running a knitting course on Tuesday evenings in August and September (8 weeks) where you can learn how to knit a basic baby cardigan. A baby cardigan will be achievable in the time frame and teach you the skills that you can apply to other garments (including adult size) in the future.

In a group setting you will knit a small stocking stitch garment and learn:
Week 1: cast on & rib
Week 2: Shape armholes
Week 4: Shape shoulders
Week 5: Troubleshooting week, work on left and right fronts
Week 6: Neckband - picking up stitches
Week 7: Complete bands, troubleshoot, learn about blocking
Week 8: Seams

There will be some homework between classes. Free pattern supplied.

Cost: $20 per week for the class, not including supplies
Dates:Tuesdays 6:30 - 9pm, Starting Tuesday August 6th and finishing on Tuesday September 24th.

Maximum 6 people in the class.
Pre-requisite: you need to be at least a beginner knitter (ie., have learned to cast on and knit and purl before)

Intermediate/Advanced Knitting

Knitting workshop – Mitred Square blanket

The ever-popular mitred square blanket is a standout item at March Yarns. Learn how to make it with the talented knitter who knitted this version using leftover sock yarn.

You will need:

Yarn  - any yarn (8ply or 4ply) and needles to suit. This is a great stash buster, or you can colour-coordinate – the possibilities are endless.

Needles –needles to suit your yarn

Ability: Suitable for intermediate or advanced knitters.

Workshop Cost: $45 (1 x 3hr session)

When: Tuesday 6th August 9:30am – 12:30pm

Preliminary work: Cast on and work the first row before the workshop. The teacher will then work with you on creating the leaves and subsequent sections of the pattern.

Cancellation Policy

Refunds for cancellations of workshop bookings can only be made if the space is successfully resold. Please double check your availability on the date before booking.

In the event of cancellation by March Yarns a full refund will be made.

Classes and workshops will be repeated so if you do not get a place in the class that you'd like please put your name on a waiting list and we'll contact you if a place becomes available and when we schedule the next class.
